Education Department Associate in Education

The Associate Degree in Education is designed to address the increasing demand for qualified professionals in the field of education. This program prepares students for assorted educational support roles, including teacher’s aides, substitute teachers, and other paraprofessional positions in elementary and secondary school settings.

The curriculum is systematically structured to align with the foundational and general education requirements established by the New Mexico Higher Education Department. The program also serves as a clearly defined transfer pathway for students who intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education at four-year institutions.

In addition, the program includes field observation components in bilingual education and ESL settings for prospective bilingual teachers. These classroom observations provide students with supervised, practical engagement in classroom environments. The practical learning opportunities enhance professional readiness and reinforce the academic knowledge gained through coursework and the program of study. Also, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of educational theory, child, adolescent, and human development, and instructional methodologies, forming a strong foundation for continued educational and professional growth.

If you are motivated to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of young people and to positively impact your community, the Associate Degree in Education at SENMC offers an excellent starting point. Our graduates are ready to inspire, support, and lead in the field of education.
